BOARD OF DIRECTORS
I was born August 11, 1937 in Jackson, MS. My parents were Fred and Irene Thomas. We lived in South Jackson which was where hard working people lived. Daddy drove a yellow cab (anywhere in Jackson for 10 cents). The Yellow Cab dispatcher was named Ray Thornton. My Grandparents lived around the corner from us on Porter St. named after Mr. Billy Porter. Thus my name “Billy” after Mr. Billy Porter and “Ray” after Mr. Ray Thornton.
I was born March 5, 1941 at home in Florence, MS. Cabe and Jewel Weathersby were my Parents. “Munner” is the name we gave our Mother and Daddy was known as, “Poppa Cabe” to those outside our family. There were eight children in my family-three girls and 5 boys. I was in the middle so to speak with three brothers older than me and two brothers and two sisters younger. We lived in a small home near downtown Florence. All of us graduated from Florence High School.
My Sunday School teacher spoke of Jesus often and I was saved at an early age in my life. My cousin, Martha Ann Courtney, took me to Ridgecrest Baptist Assembly for Missions Week. I was injured on a travel iron and was walking near the ice cream shop when one of the young men, Billy Thomas, who worked at Ridgecrest helped me. We talked for a while and discovered we were both from the Florence, MS area. When we both returned to Mississippi and I was registering for music classes at Mississippi College we met again. We saw each other several times, were engaged in October 1958, and Married May 30, 1959.
God blessed us with four children Steve, Scott, Sharon and Susan. We now have 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren but lost a great grandson who drowned at age 4.
Billy, after serving on the Jackson Police Department and working with New York Like Insurance, entered the Ministry. We served churches in Mississippi and Louisiana. Following serving churches we began The Nursing Home Ministry where we are serving now.
